2000
April 18 WGN-TV came home victorious from the 2000 Illinois Broadcasters Association Silver Dome Awards Competition winning 2 awards.
May 6 WGN-TV celebrates its 11th Annual Bozo Ball and the 100th Anniversary of the Off the Street Club. Bozo Ball 2000, hosted by WGN-TV’s Bozo the Clown, raises $215,000 in net proceeds on Saturday, May 6 at Navy Pier. Over the past eleven years, the Bozo Ball raised over $3.3 million dollars for charity. During the evening’s program, Geraldo Rivera, Willie Davis, and Don Cornelius, all partners in QwestCom L.P., made a surprise announcement of a $1 million donation to the Off The Street Club. The monies will go towards the long-held vision of a new addition to the Clubhouse, which will be completed later this year.

August WGN-TV debuts its new state-of-the-art digital news center.
August 28 Tom Skilling renews a long-term contract with WGN-TV to serve as the station’s Chief Meteorologist for WGN News at Nine and WGN News at Noon
September 19 The WGN Superstation network topped 50.4 million subscribers in September and reaches half of the television homes in the country.
October 3 marks the official launch of “WGN News Investigates,” with veteran anchor Steve Sanders as principal investigative reporter. The WGN News Investigative Unit is dedicated to uncovering truth, revealing injustice, and exposing corruption. Under the leadership of award-winning senior investigative producer Mark T. LaMet, WGN News Investigates will provide context and depth to the headlines of the day as well as produce both long and short-term investigations. Major investigations will premiere on the WGN News at Nine and may be repeated on the WGN News at Noon.
November 1 After 18 years in the broadcast booth, Steve Stone announces retirement from the field of broadcasting to pursue a different career.
November Bloomberg News and WGN-TV debut 90 second financial reports "On the Money" live from the Chicago Stock Exchange on the WGN Morning News.
