Emily Told Me About Your Smart Remarks
It's the first Friday Night Dinner in three weeks, but absence has not made Lorelai's heart grow fonder. In fact, she's dreading this dinner more than usual because she'll have to tell Richard and Emily that she and Luke broke up. The usual mood of the dinner gets thrown off, however, when a very young girl answers the door and takes their coats. She's Charlotte Forthright, the granddaughter of Emily and Richard's friends. She's sweet, well-mannered and can even make cocktails! Emily's preparing a bunch of young girls for a cotillion and Charlotte is part of that group. Having missed Emily's table manners class, Emily has turned Friday Night Dinner into a formal dining experience for Charlotte.

Feeling a flashback to her own childhood, Lorelai goes on the offensive. Charlotte laughs off all of Lorelai's anti-cotillion commentary and Emily is unwavering in teaching Charlotte proper table manners. So much so, that Lorelai's news of her break-up with Luke go by without much comment from Emily and Richard. Neither can think of thing to say about it. Lorelai's in the mood for a fight, but nobody will take the bait. Emily and Richard agree that neither couldn't possibly say anything right, so they decided to say nothing at all.

Trans-Atlantic Troubles
Rory and Logan's daily conversations have no sizzle or enthusiasm. It's all mostly small talk about work or what they ate the day before. It's so boring, Logan's even doing work while they chat. Rory can feel the strain and worries that the phone calls will not be enough to keep their romance alive. She misses the holding hands, sleeping next to each other and other intimacies. Paris thinks one way to get the romance going again is for Rory to have phone sex or text sex with Logan. Rory is not sure she can do it, but gives it a shot. Sadly, she doesn't hear back from Logan. Can Rory and Logan make the long distance thing work?

Do I Like Pop Tarts?
Back at home Lorelai is puzzled. She realizes that her parents lack of a reaction was worse then them freaking out. She's used their reaction as a basis for making most of her life decisions. She wonders if she only likes the things she likes... because Emily doesn't like them.

Lorelai continues to stress about Emily at work, where as luck would have it Emily is. She scheduled a formal tea at the Dragonfly for the girls she's training. Michel purposefully didn't tell Lorelai so he could see her face when Emily appeared. Emily's as tough as always when it comes to formal events, even if it is for 10-year-old girls. It's classic Emily when she dismisses Sookie's dainty pb&j sandwiches as "circus food," but declares the fruit tarts as divine.

Luke's Diner Is Back
It's Luke's Grand-Reopening and the diner is hopping. Two regulars, Babette and Miss Patty are back in their seats. They keep wondering what's different with the place: the curtains, the tables, the curly fries? Luke says nothing's different. Rory even stops in for her first awkward conversation with Luke and her usual coffee and muffin. The only thing missing from Luke's is Lorelai.

Lane Breaks the News
Lane tells Rory she still hasn't told Zach about being pregnant, she needs a little more time to adjust. Zach knows something is up, however, and thinks his relationship with Lane is over because they haven't really connected since the honeymoon. On a good note, his painful personal life is helping his music... When Lane finally does tell him she's pregnant, with Brian also present, Zach walks away saying that "Brian must be freaking out." Later, he moves past misdirected emotions and on to denial. Lane eventually gets through to Zach by telling him to tell "Brian" that she's freaking out too. She didn't expect a baby this soon and it's a big, scary deal. Zach is happy to hear it and they kiss and make up.

The Dreaded Cotillion
Michel is overcome with the young girls' elegance and charm at Emily's practice tea, so much so that he wants to "go back in time" and do his childhood right. Meanwhile, Lorelai can't stop making jokes about the tea and the cotillion. One little girl with dark, curly hair stands out as the joker of the group. Lorelai identifies with her - Emily is not so amused.

As much as Lorelai hates the whole formal tea, and manners scene, Michel loves it. He decides to collect on a favor Lorelai owes him - he even has IOU post-its form her for proof. He wants Lorelai to take him to the cotillion. She agrees and much to her horror, Michel is really serious about it. He even buys her a gigantic wrist corsage! He's upset Lorelai didn't get him a boutinierre. When Michel looks at the room he tells Lorelai he sees the next generation of "movers and shakers," Lorelai says she sees a room full of kids "whose outfits cost more than her car." Despite her bad attitude, Lorelai honestly enjoys a waltz with Michel.

Give It A Chance
After the cotillion, Lorelai returns to the house and finds Christopher just back from dinner with Rory. Lorelai looks beautiful, still in her cotillion dress and Chris looks handsome in his dinner jacket. After Rory makes a quick exit, Lorelai stops Chris from leaving and asks him to stick around for a cup of coffee.

He declines and it's not because he doesn't want to stay, but because he can't sit and drink coffee and be "just friends" with Lorelai. Chris says he loves her, "You're it for me. And I can't pretend to feel any less than I do. I'm sorry, I just can't" Then he leaves. Lorelai just stands in the kitchen for a while thinking about what he said. Before she goes to sleep, she calls him from her bedroom phone.

Rory also makes a late-night call, or rather early morning call to Logan. This time she wakes him up - instead of the other way around. As it turns out, Logan did return her racy text message - with his own sexy message. Now out of their usual I'll-call-you-everyday-at-the-same-time routine, Logan and Rory finally sound like a couple again - who miss each other. Logan pushes Rory to give Paris' text message idea a try.
