Promise to Appear
Lorelai comes to bail Rory out of jail and runs into Finn and Colin who have come to pick up Logan. They seem to be pretty used to the jail scene, having had to pick up Logan numerous times, but Lorelai is freaked out and hopes Rory isn't forever in "the system." Rory, who hasn't really said a word, is released with just a promise to appear in court.

Need Coffee, make that Luke, Now
Lorelai is still a mess by the time she gets back to Stars Hollow. At Luke's Diner she rambles on about what kind of soap gets out fingerprinting ink and how it's possible that Rory got arrested for stealing a yacht when she never ever shoplifted in her life. Luke can't believe it either. Back at the car, Lorelai blames Logan for getting Rory into all the trouble. Rory sets her straight: she got a bad review from Mitchum Huntzberger, it made her rethink her whole life and she felt like she had to do something – like steal a yacht. It was in no way Logan's idea. Finally, it clicks in Rory's mind that she had been arrested. She says she's sorry for what she did and she promises never to be that stupid again. Then she wonders if she needs to get a special soap to wash of fingerprinting ink… Gilmores think alike!

Now What Do We Do
Lorelai takes the comical angle for Rory's crime by serving her bread and water for breakfast, posting her mug shot on the refrigerator and using two telephones to talk to her. On a productive note, Lorelai says she won't involve Emily and Richard, but will find a lawyer on her own. Meanwhile, Logan calls and misses Rory, but speaks to Lorelai he offers to have his father's lawyers who are "all over it" represent Rory too, but Lorelai declines. She also tells Logan that it was his father's progress report which spurned Rory to act so reckless. Logan meets up with Rory at Yale and gets the full story from her. He's mad at his father for being so harsh to her and actually seems like a supportive boyfriend for the first time.

One More Final
Rory attends her last final, but instead of answering any questions she just sits at her desk and thinks. Later, when she meets Lorelai for lunch she tells her mom that she's not going back to Yale next year. She said it doesn't have anything to do with Mitchum Huntzberger, she's just not sure it's the right place for her. Lorelai is outraged and fears that Rory will lose momentum and never finish college. She thinks Rory should go back to Yale and continue working toward a degree – even if it isn't in journalism. Rory says she doesn't want to float through Yale without a major. Lorelai says she won't allow Rory to give up her dream and move back home to Stars Hollow to pick up a dead end job and then storms out.

I Can't Believe I'm Doing This
Lorelai makes an impromptu visit to Richard and Emily's seeking their help with Rory's situation. She tells them about Rory's arrest and what happened at the Huntzbergers at dinner and they finally believe her. The three decide to keep things hush-hush till Friday dinner and confront Rory then. Later, it's Rory who makes an unscheduled visit to Richard and Emily's house. She breaks down in front of Richard who isn't quite sure what to do.

Friday Dinner
Lorelai arrives early to "strategize," but it's not early enough. Richard and Emily have already handled the situation their way. They meet Lorelai in a very formal way and explain the new living arrangements in the same manner: Rory will take some time off from Yale, move into the pool house (since Lorelai won't let her back in at Stars Hollow) and Richard and Emily will find her a "suitable" job from one of their friends. Lorelai is furious! Richard and Emily said they would back her and then instead went behind her back! On the way out of leaving Richard and Emily's, Lorelai spots Rory moving her books into the pool house. Rory turns and sees her, but doesn't say or do anything.

Who Can She Trust
Lorelai heads back to Luke's Diner and gives him the update. He digests it and immediately forms a plan to "kidnap" Rory and make her go back to school. He 100% sees where Lorelai is coming from and supports her no questions asked. Lorelai realizes this and out of the blue asks him, "Luke, will you marry me?" He is so stunned and her question is so out of left field, all he can say is, "What?"

Getting The Band Back Together
It's not only Rory who's having a reality check - Lane has one too about her future plans. What's bothering Lane the most is that the band seems to be losing steam. They don't really practice anymore and it seems like the other members are more interested in their other jobs: Zach has his video games, Brian has Century 21 and Gil is delivering sandwiches. Lane can't believe she risked "eternal damnation" for this. The band realizes that since they've played all the local places their next step would be to go on tour, but that would take time, commitment and money - none of which they seem to have. In despair, Lane goes to visit her mother and asks her to move back in since she's giving up on the band. Mrs. Kim has a shocking reaction and gets upset with Lane for quitting. She says Lane is not the person she raised if she's going to be a quitter.

At the next band meeting Mrs. Kim busts in and demands attention. She has booked the band to perform in 7th Day Adventist church halls for the next two months. It sounds like a weird idea to everyone and Zach especially isn't too enthusiastic to go on "some crazy Christian tour." Gil rallies the troops however, when he declares the idea weird, but very "rock'n'roll." Everybody's in - Lane is thrilled and relieved!

New Horizons
We didn't see it, and Luke didn't know about it, but Lorelai did meet with the company who wants to buy The Dragonfly. They seem to be very interested in her joining their company as an inn consultant and send her a luxurious gift basket. Lorelai finally tells Luke about it and says she is just "mulling over" the idea. With this new job and all the traveling it will require, Luke blurts out to Lorelai, "What about the kids?" Lorelai wonders - what kids?

The Kids' House?
Luke's bid on the Twickham House was approved and he signs the official papers. Taylor lets Luke know that legally there is a 3-day "cooling off" period where Luke may change his mind about the sale without penalty. Luke doesn't think he'd need the "cooling off" period until he picks up a vibe that he and Lorelai may have different future plans in mind. Then Lorelai confuses him again when she proposes to him!
