Their (One Hundred And) First Date
It's official: Christopher and Lorelai are dating and have been for six weeks. There was a movie, lots of candy and an awkward scene on the front steps wondering if they should kiss or not. They are definitely dating and Lorelai's happy about it, Chris is thrilled about it, but Rory and Sookie are being a little more cautious. They've seen Lorelai get hurt by Chris before and don't want her to fall into that trap again. Sookie says Chris is not exactly the usual rebound guy that follows a big relationship break-up. Lorelai assures them both she knows what she's doing.
She'll Be OK
Luke volunteers to have April stay with him while Anna helps her mother recuperate from back surgery. Anna thinks she'll be needed for two weeks and is stressed out because school's starting. Luke tells her not to worry.
When April returns with all of her bags, Luke gives her the quick tour of his apartment. Her comments inspire him to spruce up the place a little bit. Unlike the major renovations that happened at Lorelai's house last year, Luke's apartment above the diner hasn't changed in years. With some new tablecloths, candlesticks and a centerpiece, April says that Luke could maybe even bring a date over, and with the new woman's touch, his date would now be totally comfortable there. After some more implied set-ups for dates, Luke tells April in a kind, fatherly way, he's in her life to take care of her - she doesn't have to worry about him.
All This, Perfect
It seems like it's been a long time since a guy did something thoughtful and special for Lorelai. Chris ends the drought with a great surprise date. After a long drive to what seems to be the middle of nowhere, Chris takes Lorelai to a faraway barn. He beeps the horn, and magically the classic film "Funny Face" is projected onto the side of the barn. Lorelai is speechless. After six weeks of dating, and especially following a date like this, plus he let her know that Gigi's at her grandmother's... Lorelai knows Chris is thinking about taking their relationship to the next level. She tells him she's scared. She doesn't know if she trusts their relationship yet. Lorelai asks Chris if it's OK to keep their relationship as just dating for a little while longer. Chris is totally fine with that decision.
Their perfect date gets interrupted by a phone call. Somebody needs Lorelai to get them out of jail. Under most circumstances, this would probably be a bummer, but when the con in question is Emily, it's as Lorelai puts it "the cherry on top" of a great night.
Emily got pulled over for talking on her cell phone while driving - a recent no-no in Connecticut unless it's a "hands free" phone. Then, she got a little too Gilmore on the police officer, refused to take a breathalyzer, and voila she's in jail. Emily called Lorelai to bail her out because Richard, a soon-to-be-guest-lecturer for Yale this semester, was having dinner with a Dean from Yale and she didn't want to ruin his reputation. On the way out, Emily haughtily tells the police officers they will be hearing from her lawyers. Meanwhile, Lorelai with her perma-smile snaps pictures with her camera phone. What did Lorelai like more: the date or bailing out Emily?
When they return to Lorelai's house, Chris is a little upset because his date was overshadowed by Emily's being in jail. On the contrary says Lorelai, she's so glad Chris was with her when she got the call because he knows exactly how much it meant to her to pick her mother up at jail - and also not think she's deranged for smiling. She's so happy to be with somebody who knows her so well. After this revelation, Lorelai has a change of heart and asks Chris to stay over.
New Year, New Friends
It's back to business at the Yale paper and Rory does her best to dodge Paris' side commentary, not totally unexpected since Paris isn't editor anymore.
When nobody else takes it, Rory ends up with the job of covering an art exhibit. While there, she runs into two very energetic artists, one who declares everyone a "genius" including Paris. Rory invites them over to hers and Logan's place afterwards to hang out. They are impressed by his swanky digs and make themselves quite at home. Do you like her new friends? When Logan makes his daily call, Rory chats briefly, but with the loud music blaring in the background she asks if she can call him back later.
