Nathan and Haley have been preparing to become parents, but that's not the only activity that kept them busy. Nathan's point shaving is publicly exposed and his scholarship to Duke rescinded. So the couple moves back into the Scott residence to keep a newly rehabbed Deb company. And as Nathan begins to prepare for life without basketball, he's approached by Coach Whitey. Whitey's decided to take a position as the coach of a small local college. And the old guy asks Nathan to come play with his team.

Evil Stalker Derek returns (turns out he was never in custody). He terrorizes Peyton and Brooke on prom night, but the two end up getting the best of Derek and sending him off to jail for once and for all. The incident also helps the ex-BFFs to become BFFs once again. Brooke and Peyton actually end up moving in together (in Haley and Nathan's old apartment) and make plans to spend the summer together in LA while Haley works at her music internship.

Mouth decides that he's too predictable and safe, so he runs off with Rachel which inspires the gang to take a road trip to find him and bring him home. They end up finding the guy and they all end up going to the town's local prom that evening.

After his strange dream, Lucas starts to doubt that Jimmy Edwards killed Keith. Then when he discovers Abby, who was in the building and actually witnessed Dan kill Keith, Lucas thinks he has enough evidence to expose his father. But Abby is afraid of the repercussions that may come with accusing the mayor of murder. So she splits town and leaves Lucas sounding like a crazy person. Karen even asks her son to go to therapy.

It seems that Dan's kindness toward Karen has been working. The two spend a lot of time together, and his plan is to be there for all of them after the baby is born. But a confrontation with a vengeful Lucas puts an end to all of that. He threatens to kill Dan, and Karen passes out on the kitchen floor. Lucas gets his mother to the hospital but tells Dan he's not welcome. Ever. He also tells Deb about the murder and even though the timing is terrible, she tells Nathan. Karen gives birth to a baby girl, but she continues to fight for her life.

With his entire family against him and the truth about Keith's murder exposed, Dan contemplates what to do next. Finally, he turns himself in and spends the final Season 4 episode in jail. Karen comes to visit him, but now that she knows the truth, she's through with him, so she tells him that and spits on his jail window.

Meanwhile, Haley gives birth to little James. She and Nathan are thrilled to be parents -- so thrilled that they have trouble taking the night off for their last high school party. But Grandma Deb's happy to watch the little one while they're out.

At the final party, Rachel returns and surprises everyone. Haley and Nathan ask Lucas and Brooke to be James's godparents. Brooke and Lucas share a tender moment. Mouth actually kisses Brooke! And the season ends the way the show began -- with basketball at the river court. First the whole gang plays, and then Nathan challenges Lucas to a game of one-on-one.

And that's all for now... next time we see the OTH gang, they'll be four years older and in their twenties!
