What's the drama:
There's no way that the Ravens should lose the state championship to Pontiac. Everyone's revved up -- except Nathan. He's got to throw that game, and he tells Lucas as much. And Lucas tells his brother that he's going to do all he can to stop him. He and Skills devise a plan to freeze out Nathan during the game -- they still want to win.
Rachel doesn't learn anything from Tutor Girl. But she does learn that Haley has the key to the drawer that holds all of the upcoming tests and offers her much-needed cash for a little preview. But unlike her husband, Haley has enough integrity to turn down the easy money.
Karen tells a reluctant Deb that she's going to drive her to the big game. Unfortunately, the woman can't go an evening without the pills -- even for her son.
What's up with Peyton:
Peyton tells Brooke that she finally told Lucas that she loved him and he doesn't want to be with her. She told him she loved him and all he could say was "oh."
What's up with Lucas:
In an effort to up his game, Lucas doesn't take the pills that are supposed to slow down his heart before the big game.
What's up with Haley:
Haley collapses in the bathroom in pain right before the big game. The cheer squad rushes Haley to the hospital where she discovers that she's okay and the sex of her baby. They even make it back for the second half.
What's up with Nathan:
Despite the fact that Lucas and Skills keep the ball from Nathan, when he does get the ball, the guy turns it over to the other team. Nathan and Skills even get into it on the court and they head to the lockers at halftime, trailing Pontiac 21 to 36.
What's up with Whitey:
At halftime, Whitey plays a tape from a game that was lost 18 years ago -- when the Ravens came apart at the seams. The old coach encourages his team to have some pride. And as Nathan walks back to the court his wife tells him that he'd better play well or he'll have to explain the ugly loss to his son one day. Nathan returns to the second half a man inspired. He tells Lucas that he wants to win and they begin to take the game back with what Mouth calls the best comeback in the history of Tree Hill.
What's up with Karen:
Karen takes a short detour to the game and drops a passed out Deb off at a chemical dependency program. Then, Karen arrives just in time to see Nathan pass the ball to Lucas for a three-pointer that wins the game. The entire crowd rushes the court.
What's up with Dan: Dan is hugely proud that his son did the right thing, but he knows that they'll be trouble with Dante now. Nathan actually apologizes to Dan for not being able to throw the game. But Dan tells him that he's proud of him and he'll deal with Dante.
What's up with Brooke:
After she bonded with Peyton at the hospital, Brooke actually encourages Lucas to go after her ex-best friend. He takes her advice and tells Peyton that she's the one he wants by his side when all his dreams come true and they share a kiss.
What's up with Rachel:
Rachel admits to Brooke that she's only getting tutored by Haley to get the keys to the test drawer. Brooke is actually the one flunking calculus and if she wants to graduate, she'll get busy cheating.
How does it all wrap up?
After the game, Nathan tries to tell his wife why his game was so bad at first. But he doesn't get the chance. As Nathan and Haley walk home that evening, Dante runs Haley down in the street and then crashes into a barrier as he attempts to get away. Nathan pulls a passed-out Dante out of the car and begins pummeling his face but Dan stops him. He realizes that Dante is dead and says that Nathan killed him. He tells his son that his wife needs him and prepares to take the fall for the murder.
Meanwhile, Lucas runs out to attend to Haley and passes out. It's full cardiac arrest. The EMTs rush both Lucas and Haley to the hospital.
