Statins; CPR; Green tea
Monday, March 31

In tonight's Medical Watch -- drink green tea ... it makes your medicine better. A new way to perform CPR and a surprising benefit from statins.

Statins
Heart specialists gathering in Chicago for the American College of Cardiology meeting report people taking statins to lower cholesterol do not have heart attacks as often as those not taking the drugs. The heart attack risk reduction was both dramatic and surprising. Lipitor reduced the number of attacks by 70%. And 60% of patients taking Lipitor had no attacks for the duration of the six month study.

CPR
Stick with your hands when performing CPR. The American Heart Association has made a major change to it's guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The new recommendation: skip mouth-to-mouth breathing and only perform chest compressions, use rapid, deep presses on a patient's chest if they appear to be having a heart attack. Experts say hands-only cpr is simple and easy to remember and may prompt more people to offer help in an emergency if they don't have to fear mouth-to-mouth.

Green Tea
If you fear super bugs, sip on some green tea. Green tea helps make antibiotics three times more effective against antibiotic resistant bacteria. Alexandira University reseachers tested green tea combined with four common antibiotics. Going up against 28 disease-causing microorganisms, the green tea enhanced antibiotic power.
