Friday, June 13

Coffee: don't drink it ... just sniff it and feel better.

Coffee beans -- or at least the smell of them -- is a good stress reliever. Vanderbilt University researchers say the coffee aroma activates genes that produce an antioxidant effect. Researchers say coffee smells do change the brain ... you know that if you've ever been roused from sleep by the aroma. It turns out stress from sleep deprivation disappears when you smell the coffee.

Sleep Aggression
Make sure your adolescent gets enough sleep and you may have a dream teenager. The major determinant of aggressive teenage behavior is lack of sleep. The Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine reports children who have difficulty sleeping or have disturbed sleep are 40% more likely to be anxious, depressed and aggressive as teenagers.

Toes
From your heart to your toes ... your toes can tell the story of heart health. Specifically the toenails can warn of growing heart disease. Testing the levels of nicotine in the toenails even in non-smokers reveals the threat of heart disease. According to the Journal of Epidemiology, toenail analysis is nearly 100% accurate at predicting future heart ailments. The toenail test was performed on nearly 65,000 nurses over 14 years. With every point increase in nicotine levels there is a 42% increased heart risk.
