Nickel Allergies; Sick Tomatoes; Mother's Behavior
Monday, June 23
If you have an unexplained skin rash, the reason could be close at hand.
Nickel Allergy
Your jewelry could be to blame. For some people, jewelry causes skin irritation and itchy rashes. Experts say the most common reason for the problem is nickel ... which can be found in almost anything metal. These allergies are more common in women, and most common in women with pierced ears. If you break out, doctors say stop wearing the item and the rash should go away quickly.
Sick Tomatoes
Warm tomatoes and cold water could be a combination that leads to salmonella contamination. Experts say if tomatoes are picked in the blazing sun ... then plunged into cold water ... any salmonella lurking on the skin could get sucked inside through the scar where the stem used to be. The warning goes for big time farmers.. and home gardeners. That doesn't mean you shouldn't wash tomatoes ... but warm water is recommended over cold.
Mother's Behavior
And a mother's early interactions with her infant, as well as the baby's temperament, help predict a child's risk of behavioral problems. University of Chicago scientists found babies who were considered generally happy, less fussy and intellectually stimulated by their mothers, were less likely to lie, disobey and bully others as they grew older.
