Movin' On Up: Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions
The surviving members of the legendary group The Impressions who first began their illustrious career with Jerry Butler and later with Curtis Mayfield join us to talk about their music and the messages their songs conveyed in relation to the Civil Rights Movement.
Also on the show is documentary director and producer David Peck of Reelin' in the Years Productions. He directed the in-depth documentary on Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions which is scheduled for release on May 6, 2008. The documentary is rich with archival footage of performances by the band and interviews with the late Curtis Mayfield. We hear a sampling of some of the Impressions' most well-known songs as well as interviews with some of Curtis' close friends and family that are featured in the documentary.
