Micah Materre currently anchors the WGN News at Noon. She joined WGN-TV in January 1998 as a WGN Morning News anchor and medical reporter. While at WGN, Micah has covered entertainment news and special assignment stories.
Micah has been a broadcast journalist for more than 20 years. Before moving back home to Chicago, Materre spent eight years at WJBK-TV in Detroit where she was a main anchor and general assignment reporter. While at WJBK, Micah's work garnered numerous awards and accolades. Prior to moving to the Motor City, Micah cut her teeth in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor. She began her career in broadcasting in 1983 at NPR affiliate, WBEZ radio in Chicago, producing and reporting for four years. In addition, she taught radio production at Columbia College.
Recognized for her excellent work as a journalist, Micah is an Emmy Award winner and has been honored by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. She has also been featured in several national publications, including New York Times Magazine, Glamour, Ebony, Good Housekeeping, Today's Chicago Woman, and Who's Who in Black Chicago.
She serves as Commentator, Mistress of Ceremonies and Honorary Chairperson to several community and civic organizations across Chicagoland. She is a board member for Li'l Buds Theatre Company, and serves as an officer in the international civic organization, Links, Incorporated. Micah is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the National Association of Black Journalists.
