Marcella began as a freelance reporter for the Morning News in October 1998, when she returned to her hometown, Chicago. She joined the WGN-TV staff in February 2000. Prior to joining the WGN news team, Marcella worked at WCFC-TV, from 1989 to 1990, where she was nominated for an Emmy working as a reporter, producer, and editor. From 1990 to 1992, she worked at WTVO in Rockford, as a weekend anchor, reporter, and producer. In 1992, she transferred to Dayton, Ohio and worked at WDTN-TV as a morning anchor and reporter until 1998. While in Dayton, Marcella spent her time working on the volunteer committee for the Ronald McDonald House.
Marcella was born in the Bronx, New York, but moved to Illinois when she was ten years old. She graduated from Montini High School in Lombard, Illinois in 1983, and attended Columbia College in Chicago, graduating in 1988. In addition to Marcella's work on WGN-TV's Morning News, she taught a speech class at her alma mater, Columbia College from 1998 to 2001.
Despite her New York roots and earlier relocations as a reporter, she considers Chicago her only home. Marcella grew up watching WGN-TV and is thrilled to be working in her hometown. In the Chicago area, Marcella is very active in several charities including breast cancer awareness, homelessness and senior citizen issues. She also actively volunteers at her high school alma mater.
