Seward
July 12 - Seward
The Alaska railroad approaches the train depot in Girdwood, about 30 miles southeast of Anchorage. The train stopped specifically to pick up the WGN-TV crew and transport us 75 miles to Seward in time for a "live" shot on the 9:00 p.m. news. We're told the Alaska Railroad is the only full service railroad in the nation. It's so user friendly it will make flag stops for residents. These stops are the only connection to civilization for those Alaskans who live in the bush.
